Students interested in attending San Diego State University Imperial Valley in fall 2021 will now have an even larger array of degree programs to pick from. This week, the university announced that a 4-year Mathematics Bachelor of Arts and a Homeland Security Master of Science are being added to the degree program lineup.
The programs are being added just in time for students applying for admission to the CSU for fall 2021. Prospective freshmen have until Dec. 15 to apply for admission at SDSU Imperial Valley. Graduate students have a spring application deadline.
And these two new majors are in addition to a full-time, 4-year degree liberal studies sequence previously announced as an addition to the SDSU Imperial Valley fall 2021 schedule. Altogether these new three majors bring to five the number of degrees being added to the SDSU Imperial Valley offerings in the last two years.
A full-time, 4-year psychology degree was started in the fall. And a full-time, 4-year criminal justice degree program was launched in fall 2019 when the university and SDSU Imperial Valley Dean Gregorio A. Ponce announced the commitment to double the campus enrollment to 2,000 students over the next few years.
“Our goal is to give local students a chance to attend and earn a four-year degree, or a graduate degree, at a top-tier university without having to leave the Valley,” Ponce said. “These popular degree programs and our exceptional faculty provide students even more reason to come here.”
SDSU Imperial Valley Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Mark Wheeler added, “The fact that these programs received the unanimous approval from the faculty at the Faculty Council meeting is an indication of their support for what we are doing here and their commitment to further the process.”
The Mathematics Bachelor of Arts degree program is popular with students who want to teach math, a subject that t schools want to emphasize in STEAM (Science, Technology, Electronics, Art, and Math) programs.
The Homeland Security Master of Science Degree program is geared to those who want to serve in the military, law enforcement, intelligence community, emergency management, non-governmental agencies, the corporate world, and academia.
The program focuses on such issues as cybersecurity, counter-human trafficking, child slavery, counter-narcotics, and food and water security concerns. SDSU is consistently rated among the top two graduate-level national security programs in the nation.
