The Geology 200 (Geologic Inquiry) and Historical Geology classes spent two and half days in the Grand Canyon.  Students walked along the trail of time, studied the fossils in the Kaibab Formation and enjoyed two opportunities to get below the rim.  On one such trip below the rim, students measured paleo wind directions from the well exposed crossbeds in the Coconino Sandstone.  With this data they were able to determine the prevailing wind direction during the Permian at that location.
