The College of Sciences focuses its fundraising efforts in three major areas: Faculty SupportStudent Success, and Research, Program & Facility Support.

Within these areas are specific funding needs for endowments; support for undergraduate, graduate, or faculty research; student scholarships; international student internships; and outreach activities to support the community and its educational programs.

Faculty Support (Endowed Chairs, Professorships, Scholarly Support)

Support for these prestigious faculty positions will attract and retain outstanding tenure and tenure-track faculty, build excellence throughout the college, and grow our nationally-ranked programs. This opportunity is both an honor to the named holder of the appointment and an enduring tribute to the donor who established it. This opportunity can benefit the recruitment and/or retention of the highest-quality faculty members which enriches the academic environment. The funds can propel creative research and enhance career development, supporting SDSU’s strategic plan to cultivate a resilient and sustainable university. Endowed positions are a priority for all 8 departments, but prospects have been identified for Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Physics, and Psychology.

Student Success (Scholarship and Fellowship Support)

Scholarship and fellowship help to ensure that all students can achieve their greatest potential by better preparing for lifelong successful careers. Impact-driven philanthropy delivers opportunities for students to unlock that potential through research experiences, internships, leadership training, and more. Scholarships help to recruit students from all backgrounds and support their aspirations to build a strong educational foundation. Endowed fellowships enable students to conduct research and offer the ability to work closely with faculty researchers in labs to gain hands-on experiences. With students at our core, endowed scholarships and fellowships are essential to the continued success of the College of Sciences.

Research, Program & Facility Support

This support is critical to building an R1-designated program and becoming a premier public research university. Support provides an opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students to gain substantial hands-on cutting-edge laboratory experience with modern equipment and facilities while fostering an environment that promotes independent and critical thinking. Hands-on experience helps to better prepare our students for the workforce and allows faculty to take on larger projects.
