Bio
Professor Peter M. Iovine joined the San Diego State University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2026. Dr. Iovine is an organic chemist specializing in small molecule organoboron chemistry, polymer synthesis, and biopolymer chemical modification.
He is an expert in polysaccharide chemistry and has published extensively on the synthetic manipulation of polysaccharides for biomedical applications.
Professor Iovine has been the recipient of the NSF CAREER award, the Henry Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award, Research Corporation for Science Advancement Cottrell Scholar, and the San Diego Section of the American Chemical Society Outstanding Service Award.
Currently, Dr. Iovine serves as the Deputy Chief Research Officer inside SDSU’s Division of Research and Innovation (DRI).
